Polyester resin is the traditional and still most widely used type of resin in composites. Polyester resins and gelcoats are by far the most common type of resins used for traditional GRP/fiberglassing and offer an excellent combination of mechanical performance, weathering and value for money. Their low cost and good weathering properties make them ideally suited to applications like flat roofing/waterproofing and pond lining, as well as traditional fiberglassing projects such as boat-building, enclosures and moldings for transport applications.
Vinylester resins behave very similarly to polyester resins but tend to offer improved mechanical properties and chemical resistance, making them a popular choice for tooling/mold making. Vinylester and polyester resins and gelcoats are fully compatible and can be used alongside each other.
For the vast majority of conventional fiberglassing (FRP) applications, our GPX Polyester Laminating Resin can be combined with chopped strand mat as the perfect all-rounder.
